“Near Death” is a procedural series about a young man, haunted by terrifying visions, and a burned out female ex-cop who are recruited by a top-secret government organization, to track down and destroy demons entering our world through people's Near Death Experiences.
These demons are spirits that manifest the dark impulse that led to the initial Near Death Experience. For instance, in one episode, a woman shoots her cheating husband. The man is revived and brings back a demon that manifests jealousy. This demon possesses the Near Death Survivor and amplifies his smallest jealousy to try and drive him to violence. So, the demon manipulates people's own “personal demons” like lust, rage and envy to wreak havoc.
Our leads are BOBBY REYES, the type of strong but soulful character Jared Padalecki could play, and DETECTIVE ALISIA SUSSMAN, who is sharp, tough and fearless, like Lena Heady.
Bobby (25) was involved in a fatal car accident that killed him, his fiancé and his father-in-law. Bobby was dead for 5 minutes before paramedics could revive him. Bobby is the first person to bring a demon back with him. As ground zero for the phenomenon, he shares a psychic link with each demon that enters our world and witnesses terrifying visions of their destruction. This connection makes Bobby the perfect person to hunt these demons down.
Bobby finds a strong ally in DETECTIVE ALISIA SUSSMAN.
ALISIA (34) is a strong-willed woman, with a wickedly twisted sense of humor. Alisia married her college sweetheart, PHILLIP and they were blessed with a beautiful boy, JAMES. Alisia was the LAPD's first female homicide detective, and throughout her stellar career, she faced death on a daily basis. But 8 years spent witnessing the horrifying aftermath of heinous crimes and cleaning up the mess eventually took its toll. But Alisia was pushed over the edge when her husband and son were
murdered, a strange symbol carved on her husband’s forehead. While the killers were never caught, Alisia became obsessed with finding them. By helping Bobby stop the demons entering our world, Alisia will get a renewed sense of hope and purpose as she also tries to find her husband’s killers. .
Alisia and Bobby are recruited by Project Gateway, a secret division of The Stargate Project, a real federal organization created in the 70s' to investigate psychic phenomena and its potential military applications. But what they don’t know is they’re being used as pawns in a much more insidious plot. A plot that involves the apocalyptic end to our world. A plot that has a very personal connection to the tragic deaths that affected Bobby and Alisia’s lives. A plot that Bobby is both the key to starting…and the key to stopping.
