THE SERIES: Eric Saumis a high school junior with a major chip on his shoulder. A chip forged by years of seeing a world filled with injustice and feeling helpless to do anything about it. After beating up a school bully, Eric finds himself in detention - along with three other students who couldn’t be more different:
Alisonis the new girl in town. She was forced to move here when her father, a cop, was transferred to Jackson. Alison is tough, smart and a bit aloof. Lukeis a jock who’s used to coasting by on his looks and popularity. Hannaha quiet, socially awkward girl who marches to the beat of her own drum.
As part of their detention, the students are assigned to clean up The Ward House, a house rumored to be haunted. But it’s more than that. The students discover a door in the attic that is a Gateway to hell. After unlocking it, the kids find themselves marked as The Guardians of the Gateway and endowed with supernatural abilities:
Eric: can control ectoplasm, the balls of kinetic energy that’s seen when ghosts appear.
Alison: discovers she can control people with her voice. Like a siren.
Hannah: can create and manipulate cold spots, to create frosty mist or freeze people.
Luke: can manifest darkness from the Netherworld to create tangible weapons.
Now, this eclectic group, while suffering typical teenage growing pains, have the weight, and fate, of the world on their shoulders as they try to recapture the creatures they unleashed by opening The Gateway and battle a former Guardian, turned rouge who has an evil master plan to unleash hell on earth.
